Hundreds of protesters cutting across political affiliations staged a protest near the Mayiladuthurai Town bus stand on Wednesday demanding a fair investigation into the suspension of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Prohibition Enforcement Wing) M. Sundaresan.

The protest was organised by the “Coalition for Justice” and led by R. Muralidharan, district secretary of the Tamizhar Desiya Munnai. Protesters included representatives from various parties, including the BJP, Naam Tamilar Katchi, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the PMK, Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Katchi, and the AIADMK.

Mr. Sundaresan, who served as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (PEW) in Mayiladuthurai district, was recently suspended following his outbirst against his superior officials at a media conference instead of raising his grievances through internal departmental channels. His suspension had sparked strong reactions from various quarters across the State. Protesters demanded a transparent inquiry into the allegations against the officer, asserting that any action should follow due process and not be arbitrary.
