As part of a district-wide crackdown on illegal liquor sales and smuggling, 12 persons were arrested in Mayiladuthurai district on Wednesday.
The operation carried out under the instructions of Superintendent of Police G. Stalin had both Prohibition Enforcement Wings and personnel from various taluk police stations. Four special teams were formed under the supervision of Mayiladuthurai and Sirkazhi Sub-Divisional Deputy Superintendents of Police, with enforcement units from both towns taking the lead.
Raids were conducted at key checkpoints and newly set up temporary check-posts in Mayiladuthurai, Sembanarkoil, Perambur, Palayur, Kuthalam, Manalmedu, Sirkazhi, Puthupattinam, Poraiyar, Thiruvengadu, Vaitheeswarankoil, Nandalar, and Nalladai.
During the operation, 12 persons were found selling liquor illegally and were arrested. Twelve Prohibition Enforcement cases were registered.
