Alappuzha, the home district of former Chief Minister and CPI (M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan, will bid adieu to him on Wednesday. The cortege is expected to enter the district late Tuesday night or in the early hours of Wednesday.

The funeral of Achuthanandan will be held with full State honours at Punnapra-Vayalar Martyrs’ Memorial at Valiya Chudukkad at 3 p.m. He will be laid to rest close to the final resting places of legendary communist figures, including P. Krishna Pillai, T.V. Thomas, N. Sreedharan, P.K. Chandranandan, and K.R. Gouri.

The body will be kept at his residence until 9 a.m. on Wednesday before being taken to CPI (M) district committee office. It will then be taken to Recreation Ground around 11 a.m., where it will be kept for public viewing until 3 p.m.

On Wednesday morning, the funeral procession will pass through several points including Pazhaya Nadakkavu, Kaithavana, and Pazhaveedu before reaching the CPI (M) district committee office.

On Tuesday, a day after his death, hundreds continued to throng Velikkakathu, the house of Achuthanandan, to pay their respects.

The Alappuzha district administration has declared a holiday for all government offices and schools, including professional colleges, in the district on Wednesday.
