Work to construct a new building for cancer care is in progress at the Government Royapettah Hospital.

On Monday, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian inspected the construction work. The two-storey building was being constructed at a total cost of ₹10.27 crore, with funds to the tune of ₹3.42 crore generated through registrations for the Kalaignar Memorial International Marathon 2023 and ₹6.85 crore as government contribution under “Namakku Namme Thittam”, according to a press release.

Spread over 62,700 sq. feet, the building would have a four-wheeler parking lot and radio diagnosis unit on the ground floor, while the outpatient unit would be on the first floor and operation theatres, pre-operative ward, recovery ward, intensive care unit would be on the second floor.

In addition, construction works at a total cost of ₹40.50 crore for various additional medical buildings are in progress. Hospital superintendent Aysha Shaheen and officials of the Public Works Department were present, the release said.
