A sniffer dog of the Forest Department, Bhairava, died on the spot on Saturday (July 19, 2025) morning after it was knocked down by a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus in front of the office of Deputy Director of Anamalai Tiger Reserve in Pollachi.
The sniffer dog trained to detect poaching of wild animals and felling of sandalwood trees had unexpectedly slipped out of the trainer’s control and ran away after hearing the noise of street dogs when it got hit fatally.
The Forest Department paid tribute as per the procedure and buried the carcass.
