The working report presented at the delegates’ meet of the Idukki district conference of the Communist Party of India (CPI) at Kattappana on Saturday was critical of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)‘s stance against the CPI in the district.

The relationship between the CPI(M) and the CPI in Munnar is not favourable for the plantation sector there, it said, adding that the party was organising campaigns targeting the CPI in the name of land-related issues.

The report stated that the CPI(M) was adopting a stance in variance with those taken by the CPI on various public issues in the district.

“During a function at Muttukad in Idukki in 2012, CPI(M) leader and Udumbanchola MLA M.M. Mani said the CPI is a movement that needs to be destroyed. We should be aware that the CPI(M) is following the same stance. During K.K. Jayachandran’s tenure as the CPI(M) district secretary, the relationship between the parties was positive. But during that period, Mr. Mani, who was the Electricity Minister, continued to make repeated allegations against CPI,” said the report.

CPI national executive member K.P. Rajendran inaugurated the two-day district conference on Saturday. State council member K.K. Sivaraman hoisted the flag.

K. Salimkumar, district secretary, presented the working report, while Prince Mathew, assistant secretary, presented the political report.

Revenue Minister K. Rajan, Agriculture Minister P. Prasad, and CPI National Control Commission Secretary Sathyan Mokeri, among others, attended the conference.

The conference will elect district council members and State conference representatives.

According to sources, Mr. Salimkumar will continue for another term. Around 300 representatives are attending the conference.
