The CMBT police on Friday arrested three persons of the same family, including two women, in connection with the abduction of a youth from Andhra Pradesh.

The police said Durga Rao, 32, of West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh lodged a police complaint on Thursday alleging that his brother Yesu Babu, 24, who frequently visited Vellore and Chennai for pilgrimages, was abducted by unknown persons on Monday. They had called over the phone and demanded ₹6 lakh for Yesu Babu’s release. They also allegedly physically tortured him. The police traced the victim to a house in Guduvanchery and rescued him.

The police arrested Shobha alias Sushila, 52, of Mudichur, and her children Anisha alias Prashanthi, 23, of Thirunindravur, and Vinay, 33, of Urapakkam. Investigation revealed that Yesu Babu’s employers, Somu and Ramu, had borrowed ₹6 lakh from Shobha, but did not pay the interest. Sobha learned of Yesu Babu’s frequent visits to the city and abducted him to force his employers to repay the debt.
