Smoke on Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital premises created flutter among patients and their attendants here on Tuesday.

However, it was later clarified that the smoke was emitted from the napkin disposal unit installed on the maternity and neo-natal ward.

According to the Dean Suganthi Rajakumari, the patients and others mistook the smoke for fire on the hospital premises. However, after the issue was clarified to them, they returned to the ward, she added.

The napkin disposal equipment was later removed.
