The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has launched a week-long signature campaign from July 13 to 20, urging the Tiruchi district administration to address long-pending issues at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) here. The campaign aims to draw attention to reported shortage in medical and support staff, which has affected the quality of patient care.
The hospital, a key facility that caters to poor people across central Tamil Nadu, has been facing service disruptions becauseof vacancies, especially in nursing and support roles. In a memorandum submitted to authorities, the CPI(M) has called for immediate recruitment across all three shifts and improved access to basic amenities such as clean drinking water, hot water, nutritious food, and proper sanitation.
The party has demanded better emergency care, timely diagnostics, and essential drug availability. It urged the administration to improve infrastructure and services at the Srirangam Government Hospital as well.
