Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Mahesh Kumar Goud said the 42% BC reservations in acceptance by the State Cabinet “reflected the vision of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, the relentless pursuit of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the bold political will of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, especially considering his upper-caste background.”

“This is not just a policy decision but a historic move to give a new social status to the BCs,” he said, speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday (July 11, 2025). The Cabinet in its 19th meeting on July 10 decided to implement 42% reservations for BCs in the local body polls.

“Alongside Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, and other Cabinet colleagues, Revanth Reddy has delivered on Rahul Gandhi’s promise to the people,” Mr. Goud said, adding that this move reaffirmed that social justice was possible only through Congress leadership.

Ridiculing BRS MLC K. Kavitha for staking claim, Mr. Goud questioned, “What does Kavitha have to do with BC reservations? People are laughing at her false claims,” he said. “Sitting on a few protests and claiming it was due to them is laughable,” he said. Instead, Ms. Kavitha owes an explanation on why the BRS could not increase the reservations in their 10-year rule. “The people of Telangana are not fools.”

Calling the move a game-changer in local governance, Mr. Goud reiterated that this reservation push is part of Rahul Gandhi’s national agenda, now being fulfilled with Revanth Reddy’s firm commitment in Telangana.
