The number of casualties in the collision between a car and a mini-goods carrier on the Thanjavur-Vikravandi Highway, reported on July 8, rose to five on Wednesday.

According to police, Ilangovan, 51, of Utharamangalam, who travelled in the ill-fated mini-goods carrier, succumbed to his injuries at the Thanjavur Medical College hospital on July 9 morning.

Other persons who died in the accident on July 8 were Jaya, 55, Kumar, 57, Durga, 32, and Niveni Surya, 3, all from Perungalathur, Chennai. They were travelling in their car towards Thanjavur from Kumbakonam.

Other injured persons, Vignesh, 30, of Utharamangalam, mini-goods driver Stalin, 36, car driver and Monisha, 30, who travelled in the car, were being treated at the Thanjavur Medical College hospital, police added.
