The Delhi police have arrested 92 Bangladeshi nationals in a special 10-day drive across south-west Delhi, an officer said on Tuesday .

The door-to-door operation was conducted in several areas, including Sarojini Nagar, Kishangarh, Safdarjung Enclave, Vasant Kunj, Kapashera, Palam Village, and Sagarpur.

“A total of 88 Bangladeshis were detained from these areas,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Surendra Choudhary said, going on to add that detainees failed to produce valid documents to justify their stay in India.

The officer said most had entered India illegally, either by crossing rivers or through gaps in border fencing, and had been living in Delhi for years, working as daily wagers and domestic help.

The police also apprehended a Bangladeshi couple, Mohd. Asad Ali, 44, and Nasima Begum, 40, along with their children, Naim Khan, 18, and Asha Moni, 13, from Delhi Cantonment. They said the family had been residing illegally for 12 years and hails from Bangladesh’s Kurigram district.
