A 35-year-old woman from Periyattukam, Bekal, Kasaragod, who jumped into the Valapattanam river on Monday morning was rescued by local residents. A search has been launched for her male companion, who is reported missing.

The woman, reportedly the wife of a police officer, was pulled out from the riverbank by locals who immediately alerted the Valapattanam police. The incident occurred in the early hours on Monday.

Preliminary questioning of the woman revealed details about her friend who is believed to have jumped into the river with her. However, the police have not disclosed his identity.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel and a scuba diving team have been deployed for the search. Local volunteers are also assisting the search teams.
