Over 2,000 men, women and children aged above 15 years took part in a run organised by Madurai City Police in association with Indian Red Cross Society here on Sunday.
Madurai City Commissioner of Police J. Loganathan flagged off the run, aimed at creating awareness among the people of the evils of drug abuse, at Armed Reserve Ground. The run for men was for five km and for women it was three km.
The Commissioner also participated in the event along with Deputy Commissioners of Police A.G. Inigo Thivyan (South), Rajeswari (Headquarters) and S. Vanitha (Traffic).
The run was organised on New Natham Road up to Iyer Bungalow, and the themes were ‘Say No to Drugs’ and ‘We will create a drug-free Tamil Nadu’.
Winners were given cash prizes.
