Inflow into the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur increased to 60,740 cusecs on Friday.

The dam’s water level stood at 114.74 feet against its full capacity of 120 feet. The storage level stood at 85.32 TMC against its full capacity of 93.47 TMC. At 8 a.m., inflow into the dam increased to 43,892 cusecs from Thursday’s inflow of 37,263 cusecs. At 4 p.m., the dam’s water level further increased to 60,740 cusecs. The amount of water discharged from the dam into the River Cauvery for delta irrigation is maintained at 22,500 cusecs.

Officials attached to the Water Resources Department (WRD) said that due to heavy rain and water discharged from Karnataka dams had reached Mettur dam. Inflow is expected to increase further to 70,000 to 80,000 cusecs by Friday night. If the present inflow continues, the dam will attain its full capacity of 120 feet in the next five or six days, and after that, inflow into the dam will be released completely for Delta irrigation, officials added.

The ban on taking bath and coracle rides at Hogenakkal falls in Dharmapuri district was banned for the second consecutive day, after inflow into the Cauvery River crossed 65,000 cusecs.
