Having placed a second cage in the vicinity of the tea estate in Pachamalai, near Valparai, to trap a leopard that had recently preyed on a four-year-old girl, the Forest Department continues to look for leads from the camera traps.

The cages were placed with baits in forest patches.

However, due to the continuous rains, the scope for the leopard to move about was low, Forest Department sources said.

Bushes surrounding the quarters of tea estates were being cleared after the incident.

Anti-depredation squads have been patrolling the habitations close to tea estates to make sure that none ventures out alone after 6 p.m., sources added.
