Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) urged the Tamil Nadu government to take immediate steps to ensure fair prices for mango farmers and to compensate those who suffered losses due to the fall in market rates.
In a statement, Mr. Vasan said the Andhra Pradesh government had fixed the price of mangoes at ₹12 per kg by offering a subsidy of ₹4. He urged the Tamil Nadu government to take similar action.
He said mango farmers were distressed as they were unable to fetch reasonable prices for their produce. Excess production had further worsened the situation. As a result, some farmers had resorted to cutting down mango trees and dumping the fruits on roads. He urged the government to step in without delay to protect mango farmers and meet their demand for a fair price.
