Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan on Saturday inspected the tank desilting work in Kilavarai in Poondi panchayat.

Touring the panchayats in the upper hill station and peripheries with the Rural Development department officials and revenue authorities, he directed the contractors to ensure completion of the projects on time and also not to compromise on the quality.

The tank desilting work was being taken up at a cost of ₹21 lakh under the MGNREGA and on completion, it would help conserve water and also improve the water table, officials said.

The Collector inspected a bus stop shelter coming up at a cost of ₹12 lakh in Mannavanur and visited the PHC under construction. With the initiative from the NABARD, in Poomparai panchayat, from Alathur to Gundur, a bridge construction was underway at ₹3.10 crore.

The officials explained that on completion, the travel would be faster and farmers can move their produce to far away locations swiftly.
