The State government has sanctioned ₹3 crore for the renovation of five coastal roads in Kozhikode city, based on proposals submitted by the people’s representatives from the Elathur and Beypore Assembly constituencies. The Harbour Engineering department will oversee the construction work.
The funds were allotted following approval from the Fisheries department. Officials said Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas and Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran played key roles in securing speedy sanction for the projects.
Of the total amount, nearly ₹2 crore will be used to renovate three major coastal roads in the Beypore Assembly constituency. In Elathur, two roads will be taken up for renovation.
Meanwhile, sources in the Harbour Engineering department said the ongoing monsoon downpour may cause some delay in the swift execution of the works. They added that approval is expected soon for a few more major coastal road renovation projects.
