Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) deputy general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi N. Siva on Tuesday said that the 2026 Assembly elections is an ideological war.

The DMK NRI wing State and district functionaries consultation meeting was held in Salem on Tuesday. NRI wing secretary M.M. Abdulla presided over the meeting in the presence of NRI wing president Kalanidhi Veeraswamy.

Mr. Siva, who is the leader for DMK in the Rajya Sabha, provided suggestions to the functionaries in the meeting. Tourism Minister R. Rajendran and Rajya Sabha member S.R. Sivalingam told the NRI functionaries about how to contribute to the victory of the party in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Mr. Siva said if there was no Dravidian movement now, instead of degrees at the end of names, caste names would be there. “The 2026 elections are different from previous elections. This election is an ideological war. Openly, our enemies are declaring that their aim is to defeat Dravidian ideology,” he said.

In the meeting, 24 resolutions were passed, including condemning the Union government for not allocating funds, imposing Hindi, trying to hide the culture and heritage of Tamil, among others.
