Security arrangements have been heightened at Tiruchendur ahead of the consecration of Subramanya Swamy temple, scheduled to take place on July 7 (Monday), between 6:15 a.m. and 6:50 a.m.
As the event has been scheduled during the early hours of dawn, devotees started gathering at the temple by Sunday (July 6) noon. Over 10 lakhs pilgrims are expected to witness the consecration ceremony, which is being conducted after a gap of 16 years.
Since the commencement of yagasala puja on July 1, which marks beginning of the rituals for consecration ceremony, the temple has seen a steady influx of visitors from neighbouring districts. To ensure the safety of the pilgrims and to manage the crowd, around 6,000 police personnel have been deployed on duty for the consecration ceremony.
In addition, around 520 Fire and Rescue service personnel have also been stationed at key locations at the venue. Officials have been posted along the shore and various parts of the temple to prevent any untoward incidents at the event. Local fishermen have also been engaged along the sea shore to assist in emergency rescue operation.
A medical emergency centre including, a four bedded facility with doctors and ambulance services has been set up in temple premises to handle health emergencies
Other necessary amenities such as drinking water facilities, ORS water stations and mobile toilets have arranged across temple the event venue to ensure the comfort and convenience of the devotees.
To cover a wider area, drone services are being arranged to sprinkle holy water over the devotees. The police department has urged the pilgrims not converge at single point for this purpose, noting that drones will cover the entire area, extending up to parking zones.
Since the devotees were not allowed entry for darshan sanctum after 12 p.m on Sunday, many diverted towards the yagasala puja venue, adequate number of police personnel were deployed there to regulate the flow and order of devotees.
