A man and his two sons died after inhaling noxious smoke from a mini-generator at their house in Puzhal on Tuesday night.
Selvaraj was living with his wife Mala, daughter Ithaya, and sons Suman Raj and Gokul Raj in an independent house on the 10th street of Britannia Nagar. After dinner on Tuesday, Selvaraj went to his room with his sons to sleep. When Mala knocked on their door the next morning, they did not respond. On breaking open the door, she found all three of them dead.
On being alerted, the Puzhal police reached the house and sent the bodies to Stanley Hospital for post-mortem. During investigation, the police found that Selvaraj had switched on the generator before going to sleep as there was a power cut. However, due to little ventilation in the room, smoke from the generator caused suffocation, leading to their death.
